Hands-On Texas BBQ Classes in Houston

Ready to up your pitmaster game? Hosted by Feges BBQ co-founder and pitmaster Patrick Feges, our BBQ classes are a hands-on introduction to cooking Texas barbecue at home. Held at our original Spring Branch location in Houston, these in-depth classes walk you through the fundamentals of smoking meats—from prep and seasoning to fire management and knowing when your barbecue is done. Whether you’re new to backyard smoking or looking to refine your technique, you’ll learn practical, no-nonsense methods you can apply right away on your own smoker.

Each class covers the essentials of Texas BBQ, including brisket, ribs, and poultry. You’ll learn how to trim and season brisket, compare boat versus butcher paper methods, gauge doneness, and make the most of your trim. Rib instruction includes trimming, seasoning, cooking, and a breakdown of rubs, glazes, spritzes, and wrapping techniques. Poultry lessons focus on prepping, seasoning, and cooking chicken and turkey for juicy, flavorful results. Along the way, Patrick dives into rubs, sauces, wood selection, holding meat, and the pros and cons of different smoker types. If you’ve got a mobile backyard smoker, you’re even welcome to bring it and cook alongside the class.

To keep things fueled and fun, the day includes a BBQ taco breakfast, coffee, and a full Feges BBQ lunch spread. Each attendee also takes home a swag bag featuring a slicing knife, custom apron, Feges rubs and sauces, and more—so you’re set up to put your new skills to work at home. Tickets are transferable but nonrefundable.
